Forest Hike in Quebradillas
Tunel Negro Guajataca Forest
Service Description
This tour is designed for the serious bird watchers and nature lovers out there. In Puerto Rico we have over 17 endemic species of birds and many species of migratory and native bird species that are divided in Seabirds, Wetland and Landbirds. In the Northwest part of Puerto Rico in the towns of Isabela and Quebradillas we have 4 spots where we have the chance to encounter many of these bird species within a very short distance. Tunel Negro (3 km hike) we can see the landbirds, butterflies, lizards, and the Guaba spider. The tour guide Silma is part of the enviromental organization Liga Ecologica Quebradillana and has done multiple bird watching census in these locations. This tour has a spooky vibe because we walk across the Black Tunnel. The Black Tunnel used to be part of Puerto Rico Train System but has been abandoned over 70 years. And now there is a Bat colony inside the tunnel. The tour guide will also talk about the accidents of the train in the tunnel and the spooky stories behind it.
